Mahie Gill, the desi tadka girl was a head turner when she came to Ahmedabad to promote her latest film, Not a Love Story. Dressed in a western wear, like her counterparts Mahie alo feels it is important to promote a film today. Talking about her latest film which is based on Maria Susairaj who was accused of Neeraj Grover’s murder, Mahie firmly says, "The film is just an inspiration and not based on the case — I play Anusha Chawla and not Maria.
The film isn’t too gory or have lot of blood. The effects are just created by music. It was difficult to do this film as no one knows what actually happened between them, I had to get into their psyche." She adds, "There were also no camera men in the film. We have shot some of the scenes on our own, so it was a new experience. I got to learn a lot of new things about film making. I am also enacting the Rangeela song which made Urmila Matondkar a hit in the industry," says Mahie who always wanted to work with Ram Gopal Verma. "Even Anurag Kashyap with whom I did my debut film Dev D also insisted me that I should work with RGV. He is a very intelligent director."
Mahie hasn’t met Maria in real life. "I am a theatre person and I have also struggled in life so with my own experience I shot for the film. I don’t know if she is right or wrong — I never judge anyone. People tend to behave differently in various situations," clarifies Mahie who will be seen in Michael, Buddha in a Traffic Jam, Sahab Biwi Aur Gangster and Paan Singh Tomar too.
Today people hear a lot of news about youngsters killing their loved ones. Mahie feels, "So much anger is not right. No one has the right to kill anyone. If one is angry, he/she should just leave the person. I feel it is also important for parents to talk to their children. During my school days, parents told us that teachers were god, but today parents only create big issues if teachers punish kids," avers Mahie.
There were news that RGV wanted to cast Maria in his next. Mahie clarifies, "RGV just said that if there is a film in future, he might cast Maria if he did not consider her criminal background. He never meant anything so seriously."
Though coming from a Punjabi film background, Mahie didn’t feel much difference while working in Bollywood. "It is only the language that is different in both the industries. I have worked with A grade directors in Punjab who have assisted directors in Bollywood so the set ups were almost the same in both the industries," she says on a parting note.
